Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, in a statement to the state assembly, revealed that the decision to transfer the planning department's functions to the finance department is currently under review. He emphasized that necessary changes will be implemented after the review process.
Addressing questions from National Conference member Javid Hassan Beig, Abdullah explained that the review aims to determine if any modifications are needed. He reinforced that during previous budget discussions, the transfer was announced. Regarding delays in general provident fund disbursements, Abdullah assured efforts are underway to expedite the process.
Highlighting efficiency improvements, Abdullah detailed the use of IT-enabled platforms like BEAMS and the EMPOWERMENT system. These tools provide real-time tracking of fund allocations and expenditures, enhancing transparency and accountability. Citizens can access the Janbhagidari portal to monitor the execution of public works, marking a first-of-its-kind initiative for public empowerment.
