Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has called on the central government to step up diplomatic efforts to halt the frequent arrests of Indian fishermen by Sri Lankan authorities. He suggests initiating a tripartite dialogue to resolve the ongoing issue.
In his communication to Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Stalin emphasized the need for urgent consular and legal assistance from the Central government. This comes in light of the recent apprehension of 11 fishermen from Rameswaram by the Sri Lankan Navy.
Stalin noted that despite existing efforts, arrests have surged, with 147 fishermen detained and 19 boats seized over the past three months. He urges intensified dialogue to protect Tamil Nadu's fishing community.
