A Sudanese military aircraft crashed in Omdurman, killing at least 19 individuals, according to military and health officials. The Antonov aircraft went down during takeoff from the Wadi Sayidna airbase, just north of the city.
The crash resulted in casualties among both military personnel and civilians, though the exact cause of the crash remains unclear. The health ministry confirmed that the bodies of the deceased were transferred to Omdurman's Nau hospital, which also treated five injured civilians, including two young siblings.
The incident comes amid Sudan's ongoing civil war, which has led to severe urban devastation and numerous human rights violations. Recently, the conflict has seen the military gain ground against the Rapid Support Forces, further intensifying the bloodshed.
