In a bold move to eradicate begging, the Indore administration has introduced a Rs 1,000 reward for citizens reporting beggars. Since the initiative's launch, a flood of information has come in, highlighting the public's support in transforming Indore into a beggar-free city.
The government has prohibited both begging and the act of giving alms. By providing a special phone line for information, officials have received significant public participation, including 200 calls in just four days.
The administration has already made progress, with six informants rewarded, and several beggars facing legal action. As part of broader efforts, over 400 individuals have been placed in shelters for rehabilitation, and a pilot project is underway to expand the initiative nationwide.
