The MV Propel Fortune, a Singaporean cargo ship, finds itself detained at Paradip Port following a directive from the Orissa High Court. This move comes after the vessel failed to settle outstanding dues amounting to Rs 15.56 lakh owed to MH Bland SL for various services rendered.
The ship, which had made provisions with the supplier in May, was slated to leave Paradip's territorial waters. However, despite persistent efforts to recover the dues, the ship's exit was halted through urgent legal measures initiated by the ship chandler and recognized by the court.
The Orissa High Court's vacation bench found a prima facie case against the ship and ordered its arrest under the Admiralty Act, ensuring that the matter will see further judicial proceedings beginning the first week of January.
