The Mumbai Police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against the former trustees of Lilavati Hospital over allegations of Rs 85 crore embezzlement. The case was officially registered at Bandra police station following a complaint by current trustee Mohit Suresh Mathur.
According to Mathur's allegations, between 2000 and 2023, Chetan Vijay Mehta, Rashmi Mehta, and Bhavin Mehta took control of the hospital's trust using falsified documents. The funds, intended for legal and medical fees, were allegedly redirected for personal use. Mathur had sought court intervention to prompt the police action.
Under the court's directive, charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust under Indian Penal Code provisions, predating 2024, have been applied. Police investigations are ongoing, with a notice set to be issued to the accused for further inquiry.
