An interstate gang involved in forging residence certificates for competitive exams has been busted by Uttar Pradesh's Special Task Force (STF). This syndicate was enabling youths to fraudulently appear in railway and Army examinations across West Bengal and the northeastern states.
On Sunday, the STF's Varanasi unit arrested Shashi Bhushan Upadhyay in Jamui village, Ballia. A corresponding FIR, filed by STF Inspector Puneet Parihar, supports the charge of organized fraud against Upadhyay. Investigations revealed candidates were using fake certificates from West Bengal to enter these examinations unlawfully.
Upadhyay allegedly masterminded the operation, producing over 1,000 fake certificates with help from associates in West Bengal. He admitted to joining the Army using fake documents in 2000. Facing potential exposure, he abandoned training and fled. The detailed charges and evidence indicate the extent of his illicit activities.
