In a striking verdict, a local court has handed down life sentences to five members of a family after finding them guilty of murdering their relative over a land dispute in 2016.
Special Judge Vinay Kumar Singh identified the convicted as Jitendra Yadav, 32, Mohit Yadav, 30, Ajay Yadav, 20, Ramesh Yadav, 26, and Sharda Devi, 56. The judge pronounced the sentence following a thorough evaluation of evidence that proved the fatal beating of Ram Ji Yadav on July 24, 2016.
The convicts faced various charges under the Indian Penal Code, including murder, unlawful assembly, and destruction of evidence. A fine of Rs 11,000 was imposed on each, with a further six months imprisonment if unpaid. District Prosecuting Officer Brijendra Nath Tripathi underscored the necessity of stern penalties, with 11 witnesses affirming the prosecution's case.
