Anti-Whaling Activist Paul Watson Faces Extradition Decision
Anti-whaling activist Paul Watson remains detained in Greenland while Denmark reviews an extradition request from Japan. Watson, founder of Sea Shepherd, was arrested when his ship docked in Nuuk. Japan seeks his extradition on charges related to a 2010 incident in the Antarctic Ocean.
Paul Watson, a prominent anti-whaling activist, is currently detained in Greenland as Danish authorities consider an extradition request from Japan, officials said Wednesday.
Watson, 73, who founded the Sea Shepherd group, was arrested upon arrival at Nuuk port on July 21. He will be held until a court hearing on December 4. His legal team is appealing the decision.
Japan issued an international warrant a decade ago, alleging Watson illegally boarded a Japanese vessel in 2010, obstructed its operations, and caused injuries and damages.
