The Delhi Traffic Police have set a new record by issuing over 2.70 lakh challans to motorists driving without a pollution under control (PUC) certificate from January to October this year. This marks the highest number of such penalties in three years, according to official data.

Between January and October, a total of 2,78,772 challans were recorded for PUC violations, a significant increase compared to 2,32,885 in 2023 and 1,64,638 in 2022. Additionally, police seized 3,908 end-of-life petrol and diesel vehicles this year, compared to 528 last year.

Motorists face a hefty fine of Rs 10,000 for not possessing a valid PUC certificate. More than 47,000 violations were noted during a special drive in October, targeting areas like ITO Chowk and Peeragarhi. Overall, over 4.5 lakh traffic norm violations have been recorded in 2024.
