In a strategic bid to bolster defense ties, Russian and Indonesian naval forces embarked on their inaugural joint exercises in the waters of the Java Sea. The exercise marks a significant step as newly inaugurated Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto emphasizes closer diplomatic relations with Russia under Indonesia's steadfast non-aligned foreign policy framework.
Operating together, the crews from both nations sharpened their skills in navigation, communication, and vessel inspection, as reported by Russia's RIA news agency. The operation, which also focused on enhancing capabilities against unmanned boats, included the use of automatic artillery and small arms to ensure readiness against emerging maritime threats.
The Russian naval unit was represented by corvettes Gromkiy, Rezkiy, Hero of the Russian Federation Aldar Tsydenzhapov, and a medium sea tanker Pechenga. In contrast, Indonesia participated with its frigate I Gusti Ngurah Rai and the corvette Frans Kaisiepo, showcasing a robust commitment to the success of the joint maneuvers.
