Saudi Arabia's Historic Visit to Tehran: A New Chapter in Defense Relations
Saudi Arabia's Chief of Staff, Fayyad al-Ruwaili, is set to visit Tehran to discuss defense ties with Iran, marking a significant step in improving bilateral relations. This visit follows Donald Trump's election for a second term, during which he initiated various Middle East peace efforts like the Abraham Accords.
Saudi Arabia's Chief of Staff, Fayyad al-Ruwaili, is scheduled to visit Tehran on Sunday to discuss defense ties with his Iranian counterpart. The trip represents a pivotal moment in Saudi-Iranian relations, state media reported.
This visit comes in the wake of Donald Trump's re-election for a second term as U.S. President. Throughout his first term, Trump made notable strides in Middle East diplomacy, highlighted by the Abraham Accords, which normalized relationships between some Arab nations and Israel, despite Iran's opposition.
While Saudi Arabia has yet to establish formal relations with Israel, discussions have been ongoing, facilitated by Trump's advisor Jared Kushner. The high-level Saudi delegation aims to strengthen bilateral defense cooperation with Iran, following a Chinese-brokered agreement earlier this year to restore Saudi-Iranian relations.
