Thane's Elderly and Disabled Embrace Home Voting
In Thane, 202 citizens aged over 85 and those with significant disabilities have cast their votes from home for the Maharashtra assembly elections. In an effort to increase voter participation, 202 citizens in Thane above the age of 85 and individuals with significant disabilities have exercised their right to vote from the comfort of their homes. This move is part of a broader initiative by the Election Commission of India.
The voting process took place on November 8 and 9, with District Collector and Election Officer Ashok Shingare overseeing the implementation in Thane district. Out of the total, 166 voters were aged above 85 and 36 were persons with disabilities (PwDs).
The home voting facility is available to 933 registered voters across 18 assembly constituencies in the district. This initiative reflects a concerted effort to make voting accessible to all, ensuring that every citizen's voice is heard in the democratic process.
