Russia-North Korea Treaty: Strengthening Strategic Ties Amid Global Tensions
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a treaty with North Korea, including a mutual defense provision. This agreement, ratified by Russia's parliament, signifies strengthened ties between Moscow and Pyongyang since Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Reports indicate North Korea has supplied weapons to Russia amidst ongoing conflict.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has officially signed a strategic partnership treaty with North Korea, which includes a mutual defense clause. The decree was made public over the weekend.
This agreement follows a summit in Pyongyang between Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. The treaty stipulates mutual assistance in the event of armed conflict and has been ratified by Russia's upper and lower houses.
The new alliance underscores the growing relationship between Russia and North Korea since the onset of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Allegations have surfaced that North Korea has been supplying weaponry to Russia. Furthermore, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy reported potential North Korean troop casualties, though Russian officials have yet to confirm these claims.
