In the early hours of Thursday, a liquor smuggler was reportedly shot dead in the Deoria district of eastern Uttar Pradesh, police confirmed. The incident occurred amid a gambling session in Sohanpur village near the Bihar border.

Circle Officer Shiv Pratap Singh identified the deceased as Ajit Singh, alias Jaddi Singh, a 28-year-old known for his involvement in liquor smuggling and serving as the village head of Janjeera. Singh was recently released from a Bihar jail, having been imprisoned for liquor smuggling.

Preliminary reports indicate that Jaddi attended a Diwali gambling session, where guests from Bihar joined, leading to a deadly dispute. Following his death, authorities have launched an investigation and dispatched teams, including the SOG, to apprehend the suspects. Police await a complaint from the victim's family.
