Chief Minister N Rangasamy lauded Puducherry's status as a peaceful union territory during the 71st Liberation Day celebrations. Addressing the gathering at Gandhi Thidal, he detailed the government's efforts to reduce crime and road accidents.
The chief minister emphasized the success of 142 welfare schemes, which have reached over 98% of beneficiaries through direct bank transfers. The financial distribution amounted to Rs 796.82 crore for the fiscal year 2023-2024. A significant focus has been placed on improving education standards for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, with Rs 124.76 crore allocated to students.
The event saw participation from police, NCC members, and students, with cultural performances adding vibrancy to the celebration, despite unpredictable weather. Dignitaries, including Puducherry Home Minister A Namassivayam, attended the occasion. Later, the chief minister inaugurated a photo exhibition on Puducherry's history.
