A Vietnamese woman has been arrested in Greece for allegedly smuggling nearly 300 kg of gold bars. Greek police apprehended the 64-year-old at Athens airport, acting on an Interpol Red Notice issued by Vietnam last year.
The woman is accused of collaborating with relatives to smuggle the gold by hiding it under vehicle bodies while crossing the Vietnam-Cambodia border. Authorities allege the group avoided detection by crossing through areas without customs control.
A Greek prosecutor has ordered her detention as extradition proceedings begin. Police noted that the smugglers removed identifying marks from the gold bars to avoid discovery.
