In a significant development, police in Baramulla district have seized 2.7 kilograms of heroin, valued at Rs 20 crore, and arrested three pivotal members of a drug smuggling syndicate, an official disclosed on Tuesday.

The breakthrough came when Nazim Din from the Zamboor Pattan area of Uri Tehsil was intercepted at a Khanpora checkpoint on October 21. Authorities discovered 519 grams of heroin hidden in a polythene bag beneath his armpit, according to a police spokesperson.

During interrogation, Nazim revealed his involvement in drug trafficking, reportedly influenced by a mysterious individual from Downtown Srinagar known as 'Mir Saab'. Further investigations led to the arrest of his associate, Waqar Ahmad Khawaja, and another accomplice, Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, as police continue to unravel the intricate network, aiming to identify its Srinagar-based leader.
