The Uttar Pradesh Anti Terrorist Squad has commenced a detailed investigation into the financial operations of over 4,000 unaided madrassas across the state, as reported by a senior official on Thursday.

A substantial concentration of these madrassas, 495 to be precise, are located in Bahraich, with about 100 operating near the India-Nepal border, according to district minority welfare officer Sanjay Mishra.

The initiative was emboldened by an October 21 directive from Minority Welfare Director J Reebha, involving a thorough examination of the funding sources furnished to the ATS by the police director general, with field reports anticipated soon.
