Chief Minister M. K. Stalin of Tamil Nadu has raised concerns with the External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, over the arrest of 16 Indian fishermen by Sri Lankan authorities. These fishermen, who originate from Rameswaram, were apprehended on October 23, alongside the confiscation of their two boats.

Stalin urged Jaishankar to take prompt action to facilitate the release of all 128 Tamil Nadu fishermen currently detained in Sri Lanka and to address the retention of 199 fishing boats. In a letter to the Union Minister, Stalin underscored the need for immediate solutions.

The Chief Minister expressed hope that the proposed discussions in the Joint Working Group will pave the way for a permanent resolution to this ongoing matter, emphasizing the urgency of returning the fishermen and their vessels.
