The Allahabad High Court strongly criticized the Uttar Pradesh government for its failure to promptly respond to demolition notices issued in Bahraich district. The court called out state authorities for not adhering to clear judicial directions.
A Lucknow bench, comprising Justices AR Masoodi and Subhash Vidyarthi, expressed dissatisfaction at the state government's focus on technical objections regarding the maintainability of the PIL, rather than addressing the substance of the issue.
In a hearing initiated by a special bench, the court extended the response time for affected residents to 15 days, citing a breach of the Supreme Court's directives against rash demolition activities. The case will continue on November 4.
