In a dramatic turn of events, police detained 19 individuals, including three activists from the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), in Budhana town on Tuesday. This action follows accusations of breaching the model code of conduct and existing prohibitory orders.
The unrest ignited when protests erupted over claims that the police released a young man previously arrested for making objectionable comments about Islam. As tensions flared, demonstrators were accused of raising inflammatory slogans, spreading rumors, and hurling stones at local businesses.
Police have charged over 500 participants in the protests, citing disruptions around the ongoing byelections in the Meerapur assembly constituency. Security has been bolstered in Budhana, with additional forces deployed to maintain peace.
