Vikram Dev Dutt, a seasoned bureaucrat from the 1993-batch of the AGMUT cadre, has assumed the role of coal secretary as of Monday. This transition marks a significant reshuffling in the ministry's leadership.
Dutt steps into the shoes of V L Kantha Rao, who remains in the government landscape as the mines secretary. His appointment follows his previous tenure as the Director General of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, highlighting his diverse experience in administrative roles.
Prior to Rao's tenure, the position was held by Amrit Lal Meena, a 1989-batch IAS officer. Meena has since been repatriated to his home cadre in Bihar, assuming the role of chief secretary. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet sanctioned this move following a request from the Bihar government, as stated in a personnel ministry order dated August 30.
