Kerala Health Minister Veena George declared the impending dismissal of a government employee who accused the late Kannur Assistant District Magistrate (ADM) Naveen Babu of bribery. Babu's alleged suicide after accusations of corruption has ignited political tensions in Kerala.
The accused, Prasanthan T V from Pariyaram government medical college, will no longer draw a government salary, and legal proceedings are underway to terminate him from service, according to the Minister. An investigation into the allegations has been commissioned to the Additional Chief Secretary.
The scandal unfolded during Babu's farewell party, where CPI(M) leader P P Divya accused him of delaying a petrol pump's approval, implying a bribery incident. In response to the uproar, the CPI(M) removed Divya from her leadership role. Protests ensued outside the Kannur district collectorate, demanding justice for Babu.
