Just before the onset of the Maharashtra assembly election code of conduct, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) declared a Diwali bonus of Rs 29,000 for its employees. This strategic announcement has garnered significant attention.
The BMC, recognized as the nation's wealthiest civic body with a budget exceeding Rs 53,000 crore, is temporarily managed by a state-appointed administrator due to pending civic elections. The Election Commission of India later revealed that Maharashtra will conduct polls on November 20.
This year's bonus is 11.53% more than last year's Rs 26,000. Apart from BMC employees, the benefit extends to teachers and staff of BMC schools and colleges. Community Health Workers and kindergarten staff will receive Rs 12,000 and Rs 5,000, respectively, as part of the festive offering.
