The National Green Tribunal has slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on Sambhal's District Magistrate for not attending a session aimed at addressing compensation for victims of a deadly firecracker godown explosion.

The incident, which resulted in four fatalities and seven injuries, occurred in June last year. The tribunal had ordered the DM to participate virtually but was met with non-compliance.

NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava, along with other tribunal members, issued the fine and directed compliance with past orders, mandating the DM's presence at the upcoming hearing in January.
