Massive Arms Haul Uncovered in Manipur: Security Forces Strike

Over the past three days, Manipur has witnessed a significant arms seizure by security forces. Police reported on Thursday that a massive cache of arms and ammunition has been seized from different locations across Manipur over the course of three days.

In a raid conducted on Wednesday at Champhai hill in Imphal East district, security forces managed to confiscate an M-16 rifle, a .22 rifle, two SLRs, a country-made Sten gun, two carbines, eight country-made 9 mm pistols, 30 magazines, and 12 two-inch mortars.

Continuing their operations, the forces seized further weaponry from the Luwangshangbam area of the same district, including two .32 pistols, a 9 mm pistol, two hand grenades, and improvised two-inch mortars. Another successful operation in Khelakhong, Imphal West district on Tuesday saw the confiscation of an SLR rifle, a modified .303 rifle, a 9mm pistol, 16 live rounds of ammunition, and hand grenades. On Monday, a search in Gelbung village, Bishnupur district, resulted in finding an AK-47 rifle with a magazine, a 12-bore single-barrel rifle, a 12-bore pistol, a 9 mm carbine machine gun, five detonators, and 2.5 kg of IED. In Churachandpur's Kangvai, the raids revealed two improvised mortars, known locally as 'pumpi', along with two locally-made hand grenades and two country-made pistols.
