A cyber attack has targeted the Information Technology Development Agency (ITDA) of Uttarakhand, with hackers demanding a ransom from the state. The attack was swiftly reported by IT staff, leading to the registration of a case against an unidentified individual under extortion and IT Act sections at the local Cyber Crime police station.

Inspector General of Police Nilesh Anand Bharne confirmed that no data loss occurred as government websites were quickly restored by IT experts. The cyber incident emerged while a team was addressing issues with the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) on October 2. The hackers left a ransom note on the server, prompting immediate action.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed, led by Senior Superintendent of Police Navneet Singh, to delve into the case. Collaboration with central agencies such as I4C, NIA, CERT-IN, and NCIIPC is aiding the investigation, which has already led to the recovery of crucial digital logs and virus files.
