An alarming incident in Bhubaneswar has shed light on a significant security gap in Odisha's police infrastructure. A report revealed that 52 police stations in the state lacked CCTV cameras, following allegations of assault against an army officer and his fiancée within a police station.

The controversy emerged from Bharatpur police station when the couple approached the facility to lodge a road rage complaint. The absence of CCTV meant the events leading to the alleged torture and assault couldn't be documented.

Dayal Gangwar, a senior IPS officer, addressed the issue in the Orissa High Court, noting that while steps are underway to install CCTV facilities in the affected stations, many existing cameras across the state are non-functional. Efforts are now focused on completing these installations by November 15 to ensure proper surveillance.
