The Delhi High Court has reprimanded Delhi University and its affiliated colleges for neglecting to enforce the Lyngdoh Committee guidelines, which prohibit defacement of public property and use of printed posters during student union elections.

A bench comprising Chief Justice-designate Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela issued an order on September 26, delaying the vote count for the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections until all defacement materials, including posters and graffiti, are removed and public property is restored.

The court mandated that Delhi University cover the cleanup costs incurred by civic authorities, with the right to recoup the expenses from the implicated candidates. The directive follows a hearing on a plea seeking to address damages and defacements caused by candidates and their parties across Delhi.
