Intensified Clashes: Israel Expands Operations in Lebanon
Israel has deployed a fourth army division into Lebanon, intensifying its offensive against Hezbollah. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant confirmed the elimination of Hashem Safieddine, expected successor of Hezbollah's leader. Western powers seek diplomatic resolution amid fears of wider Middle East conflict.
Israel has expanded its military operations in south Lebanon, deploying a fourth army division in a significant escalation against Hezbollah. The move follows the reported elimination of Hashem Safieddine, who was poised to succeed the slain Hezbollah leader. Defence Minister Yoav Gallant confirmed Safieddine's death as Israeli ground forces extended their operations further into Lebanon.
In a show of force, Israel's 146th Division, the first reserve unit, crossed the border into Lebanon, joining three active divisions already operating on the ground. This development amidst growing tensions sparked by Hamas' attack on southern Israel last year, has seen Israel escalating its strikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon in recent weeks.
Amidst the conflict, neighbouring Iran fired missiles at Israel on October 1, and later cautioned against any retaliatory measures from Israel. Western nations are pursuing a diplomatic solution, wary that the escalating conflict might disrupt the wider, oil-rich Middle East region.
