The Delhi High Court has wrapped up proceedings concerning the detention of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk by the city police earlier this week. Wangchuk, who has been released, can now independently address his grievances as per the court's directive.
Chief Justice Manmohan, leading the bench, asserted that Wangchuk does not require another person to assert his rights. Attorney Prashant Bhushan argued that Wangchuk's detention was unlawful, yet the court clarified there's no restriction on his movements now.
Wangchuk, detained with 120 others while marching to Delhi for Ladakh's inclusion under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, was eventually released. The Delhi Police withdrew their prohibitory order just before the court session, suggesting attempts to prevent activist gatherings.
