The Supreme Court has raised concerns over the Lieutenant Governor's office's swift decision to organize elections for a Standing Committee member in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. The court questioned the necessity for such urgency.

Judges P S Narasimha and R Mahadevan have instructed the LG's office to halt any election processes for the committee's chairman position until the court hears Mayor Shelly Oberoi's plea contesting elections held on September 27.

In a serious remark, the court warned the LG's office against employing executive powers, as per Section 487 of the Delhi Municipal Act, asserting that such moves could jeopardize democratic processes. The matter is scheduled for further discussion after the Dussehra break.
