Amid ongoing probes by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Lokayukta into alleged land allotment irregularities, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has invoked Mahatma Gandhi to emphasize the 'court of conscience' over legal courts. The ED and Lokayukta are investigating the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) 'scam' involving the allotment of 14 sites to Siddaramaiah's wife, leading the opposition to call for his resignation.
On Gandhi Jayanti, addressing an event organized by the 'Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi,' Siddaramaiah cited Gandhi's ideology, stating that the courts of justice were not above the 'court of conscience.' Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar echoed these sentiments, focusing on the importance of acting in line with one's conscience.
The Lokayukta police and the ED each registered cases against Siddaramaiah following court orders. Despite the probes, the Chief Minister emphasized the Congress party's commitment to the Constitution and highlighted various welfare programs aimed at strengthening weaker sections of society.
