A tragic incident occurred in South Kolkata's Bansdroni area on Wednesday morning, where a class 9 student was fatally struck by an excavator. The boy was on his way to tuition classes when the accident happened near Dinesh Nagar auto stand, according to police reports.
Local residents immediately rushed the boy to Bangur Hospital in Tollygunge, but he was declared dead on arrival. The excavator driver fled the scene, prompting a police investigation to locate him. This incident led to public outrage and protests in the community.
Residents accused poor road conditions and delayed police response as contributing factors to the tragedy. Protesters vandalized the involved excavator and demanded action from local councillor and MLA, labeling the incident a 'state-sponsored murder'. Tensions escalated, leading to a scuffle between locals and police, during which one officer allegedly pushed a woman, causing her to lose consciousness.
