Delhi Police have apprehended a man accused of extorting a businessman while falsely claiming to be gangster Hashim Baba, officials disclosed on Monday.

The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Mohsin Khan, sought payment on behalf of a convicted narco trafficker, officials stated.

On September 9, a 40-year-old businessman operating a dry fruit shop in Chandni Chowk reported receiving threatening calls and messages demanding Rs 17 lakh in extortion, purportedly from Tihar Jail. Despite blocking the initial number, the businessman received further threats from an international line.

After registering an FIR, police tracked the calls to Malviya Nagar and apprehended Khan. During interrogation, Khan admitted to his involvement, revealing he acted on instructions from Rehmatullah, an Afghan national and convicted drug dealer.
