Delhi Police on Monday imposed a ban on gatherings of five or more people, along with the carrying of banners, placards, and arms, in central Delhi and bordering areas for the next six days, citing heightened law and order concerns.
The order, issued by Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, highlighted the sensitivity in the national capital due to communal issues, politically charged atmospheres, and significant upcoming events such as the Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2.
In addition, ongoing legislative assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana necessitate stringent checks on movement at Delhi's borders, with officials concerned about potential disturbances caused by anti-social elements.
