The Kerala High Court mandated the Kalamassery Medical College to retain the remains of veteran communist leader M M Lawrence until October 3. This followed a plea from Lawrence's daughter, Asha, who is challenging her siblings' decision to donate his body for educational purposes.
On September 25, the Kalamassery Medical College accepted Lawrence's body, transferring it to the Anatomy department. The High Court has now directed the state government to consider if a higher authority should handle the matter.
Justice V G Arun highlighted procedural lapses by hospital authorities during the hearing. Asha, along with her son, protested the transfer of the body, also stating in her petition that Lawrence had been baptized and was falsely portrayed as an atheist by his siblings and the Communist Party.
