Britain on Monday called for de-escalation and a ceasefire in response to ongoing Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon, reiterating the importance of pulling back from the brink.
A spokesperson for Prime Minister Keir Starmer affirmed unwavering support for Israel's right to self-defense, but urged all parties to exercise restraint. Israeli strikes have resulted in the deaths of around 1,000 Lebanese, forced 1 million to flee, and eliminated Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah.
'We urge all sides to step back from the brink,' the spokesperson said, stressing that a ceasefire is essential for a political solution to secure regional peace. The British government also advised nationals in Lebanon to leave via commercial flights and announced plans to assist in this process.
