Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday criticized the Congress party for treating the Ministry of Minority Affairs as a ''ministry of Muslim affairs'' during its rule, alleging that Muslims were used as a ''vote bank''.

The Union Minority Affairs Minister asserted that minorities in India are safer and in a better position than in many other countries. Rijiju emphasized that the ministry under the current government addresses the needs of six minority communities: Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, and Parsis. Contrasting this with the previous Congress rule, he said the ministry was then projected as focused solely on Muslims, which he called a misleading image.

At a press conference marking the first 100 days of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's third term, Rijiju listed the ministry's significant achievements, including the 'Lok Samvardhan Parv' event, a credit plan extending over Rs 1000 crore, the launch of the 'Pradhan Mantri Virasat Ka Samvardhan' scheme, and the Haj Suvidha app. He also highlighted the integration of the BHASHINI initiative into the ministry's website and the operational manual for conducting Urs at Durgah Khawaja Saheb, Ajmer.
