Bangladesh and India's Crucial Water Sharing Talks

Bangladesh is preparing to initiate negotiations with India to discuss the shared water resources of transboundary rivers. This comes after a previously stalled agreement on the Teesta river during former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Dhaka in 2011. The adviser, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, emphasized the humanitarian need for data sharing and the importance of resolving this issue collaboratively.

Bangladesh plans to engage in negotiations with India to address the water sharing of transboundary rivers, as announced by an adviser to the interim government on Wednesday.

The discussions follow a previously failed agreement on the Teesta river during former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's 2011 visit to Dhaka, opposed by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee due to local water shortages.

Speaking at a seminar titled 'Bangladesh's Fair Share of Water in Shared Rivers,' Water Resources Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan confirmed the upcoming talks and stressed the importance of public opinion and transparent outcomes.
