A 45-year-old man died after being struck by a long-range gunshot in Indore on Tuesday, raising intriguing questions for local police. Initial investigations suggest that the bullet's trajectory was air to ground.
The incident occurred about 2 km from the Rewati shooting range of the Border Security Force (BSF), according to a police officer.
'The deceased, identified as Balram, was supervising building construction when hit,' said Deputy Commissioner of Police Hansraj Singh. The bullet, from a specialized long-range gun, hit him while he was on the ground, as highlighted in the postmortem report.
Deputy Commissioner Singh noted that the total distance from the shooting range to the incident spot is approximately 2.5 km by road and around 1.5 to 2 km by air. Curiously, around 20 laborers at the scene didn't hear any gunshot, and no bullet shell was found.
Family members confirmed Balram had no known enemies. The bullet will be sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for further analysis, added the police officer. The investigation is considering various aspects of this unusual case.
