Odisha Government Orders Judicial Inquiry into Alleged Police Misconduct
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has ordered a judicial inquiry into the alleged torture of an army officer and the sexual assault of his fiancée at a police station. The inquiry will be led by retired high court judge Justice Chittaranjan Dash, with a report due in 60 days. The state has suspended five police personnel and requested oversight from the Orissa High Court.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has mandated a judicial inquiry into allegations of torture against an army officer and the sexual assault of his fiancée at a local police station.
The state government, through an official notification, announced that a commission led by retired high court judge Justice Chittaranjan Dash would investigate the incident. The commission will examine the events, roles, conduct, and accountability involved, with a report expected within 60 days.
Meanwhile, five personnel from Bharatpur police station have been suspended, and a case has been registered against them. The Odisha government has also sought oversight from the Orissa High Court for an independent inquiry. Speaking after meeting with the victims, the chief minister emphasized his government’s commitment to justice and the safety of women.
