Opposition BJD president Naveen Patnaik has raised alarms about the state of women's safety and overall law and order in Odisha. Citing recent incidents, he lamented that 'women are not safe even inside police stations.' This comes after the September 15 episode involving an alleged sexual assault in custody and the beating of a government servant.

Addressing party leaders from Kendrapara and Gajapati districts at the BJD's state headquarters, Patnaik also took aim at the BJP's unfulfilled poll promises. Highlighting the BJP's failure to deliver on commitments like pensions, allowances, and free electricity under the Subhadra Yojana, he accused the BJP of misleading the electorate.

Patnaik urged BJD leaders to conduct awareness campaigns to inform the public about the BJP's 'lies,' emphasizing the undelivered promises of 300 units of free electricity and a Rs 3,500 pension. The BJP, he claimed, had initially pledged Rs 50,000 to women aged 21 to 60 but later reneged on this promise.
