Police in Thane city, Maharashtra, have registered a case against a man identified as Gokul Thore for allegedly killing a stray dog, officials confirmed on Saturday. The incident took place on Thursday at Mogarpada in the Ghodbunder locality, following which a social activist lodged a complaint.

According to the complaint, Thore reportedly thrashed the dog with a bat, resulting in severe injuries. The wounded animal was taken to several veterinary hospitals but succumbed to its injuries on Friday afternoon.

Authorities have since registered an FIR against Thore under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
