The Kerala High Court has quashed the criminal proceedings against three Congress leaders implicated in the 2015 Assembly ruckus incident. The verdict, delivered on Friday, has been hailed by the opposition Congress party as a setback to the government's purported attempts to undermine the case.
In their statement, the Congress claimed that had the trial proceeded, it would have led to the punishment of CPI (M) leaders, including General Education Minister V Sivankutty. Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan accused the Left government of extending the trial with false accusations to avoid this outcome.
Justice P V Kunhikrishnan stated the complaints and pre-cognisance statements were insufficient to substantiate the charges under sections 341 and 354 of the IPC. The 2015 incident involved LDF MLAs trying to prevent Finance Minister K M Mani from presenting the budget amid corruption allegations.
