Assam's Director General of Police, G P Singh, conducted a review of the tense situation in Kochutoli village, Kamrup (Metropolitan) district, following a police firing incident that left two dead and 11 injured.
During the eviction drive against alleged encroachers, the DGP suggested the attack on police by villagers could be a 'conspiracy' orchestrated by a certain section, as the eviction had been proceeding peacefully since Monday.
Chief Minister Himanta Sarma affirmed the continuation of the eviction drive, blaming incitement by certain groups, and stated the land is reserved for tribal and protected classes under the Assam Land Regulation Act, 1886.
