The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has announced that an election will be held on September 26 to fill a vacancy in its standing committee. This vacancy arose following the resignation of BJP's Kamaljeet Sehrawat, now a Lok Sabha MP from West Delhi.
The last date for filing nominations for this post is September 19, according to an official notice issued by MCD. The contest is expected to be a close one, affecting the political balance within the committee, which currently has nine BJP members and eight from AAP.
The election will influence key decisions and proposals, as the standing committee has the authority to refer back any proposal involving expenditures of over Rs 5 crore. The AAP ruling the civic body faces a crucial test against BJP's recent gains.
