In a significant move, a Congress delegation led by Debabrata Saikia, the leader of the opposition in Assam Assembly, has called on Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya to launch a judicial inquiry into various multi-crore financial and trading scams plaguing the state. The group presented a memorandum underscoring recent online stock trading frauds that have impacted many citizens.

'The alarming surge in financial frauds in Assam reflects a broader trend driven by the rise of digital transactions, which has opened new avenues for cybercriminals to exploit vulnerable individuals,' Saikia remarked. He emphasized the urgent need for scrutiny and correction, suggesting that existing measures have been ineffective.

The Congress leaders criticized the neglect of the Assam Protection of Interests of Depositors (in Financial Establishments) Act, 2000, which they believe has led to compromised depositor interests. They stressed that, despite the efforts of Assam Police, a more rigorous, transparent investigation is vital for justice and public trust restoration. Hence, they demanded a judicial probe to be monitored by a sitting judge of the Gauhati High Court to ensure impartiality and transparency throughout the investigation process.
