A fresh incident of arson has disrupted the strife-torn region of Manipur, as unidentified individuals torched a primary health centre in the Jiribam district. The incident occurred in the Borobekra area, located less than 200 metres from a police outpost, early Thursday morning, officials reported.

Fortunately, no injuries were recorded as the health centre was unoccupied at the time. Security forces were quickly dispatched to the scene. This follows a series of violent clashes in Jiribam, where five people were killed on September 7.

The ongoing ethnic violence between the Imphal Valley-based Meiteis and the Kuki-Zo groups has led to more than 200 deaths and the displacement of thousands since May last year. Jiribam, which had remained relatively peaceful, erupted into violence after the killing of a 59-year-old man in June, leading to further unrest and displacement.
